Memphis fans could have a favorite USFL team to root for after the Michigan Panthers drafted a second former Tiger Wednesday.
Joey Magnifico, who played tight end at Memphis from 2016-19, was selected in the 34th round on the second and final day of the league’s first draft Wednesday. Magnifico follows Paxton Lynch, who was selected Tuesday by the Panthers.
Magnifico was a two-time All-AAC second team selection and left the Tigers as the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end. The record was since surpassed by Sean Dykes.

Magnifico spent the 2021 season as coach at St. Benedict at Auburndale, his alma mater.
He and Lynch will represent Memphis in the USFL along with quarterback Brady White, who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Bandits. The USFL, which features eight teams, begins play April 16.
