FORD COUNTY—Two people died in an accident just before 5a.m. Monday in Ford County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2022 Peterbilt semi driven by Tamechical Lasha Morrison, 38, Mineral Wells, Texas, was northbound on Ford County Road 117 approaching the intersection of US Highway 50.
The driver failed to yield to right-of-way traffic, entered the intersection and collided with the passenger side of an eastbound 2020 Freightliner semi driven by Michael Alan Hansen, 39, Mohave Valley, Arizona.
After the impact both vehicles traveled off the road into the ditch at the northeast corner of the intersection and caught fire, according to the Ford County Sheriff’s office.
Hansen and a passenger in the Peterbilt identified as Julius Reed Cooper, 38, Mineral Wells, Texas, were pronounced dead at the scene and transported Ziegler Funeral Home. EMS transported Morrison to Wesley Medial Center.

The collision involved two semi trucks at U.S. 50 and U.S. 283 east of Dodge City, according to the Ford County Sheriff’s office.
Both vehicles caught fire. The Kansas Highway Patrol has not released the victims’ names.
