NASCAR is short-track racing this weekend with a trip to historic Richmond Raceway. The field for the Toyota Owners 400 was set Saturday with two rounds of single-lap qualifying runs.
A familiar driver finished on top of the speed chart, and the pole win gives him a big boost as he looks for his first win at the 0.75-mile track.
Sunday’s race will be the seventh race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. Will we see a seventh different winner? The lineup might offer some clues.
Who won the pole for the NASCAR race at Richmond?
Ryan Blaney nabbed his second pole in as many races and third pole of the season with a 119.782 mph lap in the 10-car final round of qualifying. William Byron, who took the other spot in the front row, qualified at 119.585 mph.
Blaney is very pleased to be able to start up front.
“Track position means a lot here,” he said, per NASCAR.com. “Especially how my past history is here, I need all the track position I can get.” His best finish at Richmond is 10th in the 2021 fall race.
Starting lineup for Richmond race
The three NASCAR manufacturers — Ford (Ryan Blaney), Chevrolet (William Byron) and Toyota (Kyle Busch) — are all represented in the lineup’s top three spots.
In all, 37 drivers will line up for the start of the Toyota Dealers 400 at Richmond Raceway.
