As we enter the age of 5G connectivity and the metaverse in the future, devices are gradually upgraded to meet the demands. Just recently, Samsung made a breakthrough in developing its DDR5 memory solutions for that future and here’s what you can expect.
According to Samsung, the next-gen DDR5 will allow networks to handle a high amount of cloud computing data, which includes AI and autonomous driving systems. The team behind the development said that there is a 30% increase in power efficiency and its power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is incorporated into a dual in-line memory module (DIMM). This results in a more stable power supply.
Since DRAMS exist in current data centres, Samsung is planning to replace them with next-gen DDR5 to help data centres to stay cost-efficient. Moreover, data centres will require low-power, high-performance memory as they consume large amounts of energy to work. The replacement will also keep the servers cool, sustainable and eco-friendly.
As you can see in the video above, the new DDR5 can perform transfer speeds of up to 6400Mbps+ and has up to 512GB capacity. Phones in the future will definitely become more sophisticated in performing 5G, augmented reality and the metaverse but only time will tell when it becomes more mainstream.
