Wendy Mae (Legleiter) Nease, 51, Hays, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at HaysMed after a 12-year battle with breast cancer.  Her devotion to family and firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace into the arms of her Savior.

She was born March 26, 1971, in Hays, the daughter of Harry and Pat (Sander) Legleiter.  In 1990, she graduated from TMP-Marian High School then attended Fort Hays State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.  Wendy was blessed with a large and loving family.  She married her high school sweetheart, Michael Nease, on July 2, 1994, in Hays, and their marriage gave her 27 blessed years.  They raised two beautiful sons who gave her immense joy.

Wendy enjoyed providing childcare for her nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was a member of Celebration Community Church and had a love for God’s Word and involvement in Bible studies.  Wendy always had a ready answer on her tongue, and her humor brought her family laughter, right to the end.  She was deeply loved by her five sisters who surrounded her with fierce protection, prayer, and love.  She had the gift of empathy, and her beauty radiated in her kindness to others.

Her favorite pastimes included playing games, cards, and puzzles with her family.  She had a talent for drawing, which leaves her family a beautiful treasury of artwork.  Flowers always graced her table and music played throughout her home.  She was truly special.

Survivors include her husband Michael of Hays, parents Harry and Pat Legleiter of Hays, two sons: Samuel and Gabriel Nease of Hays, five sisters: Renee Ford and husband Richard of Dallas, TX, Janell Nease of Hays, Leah Leiker and husband Carl of Thompson Station, TN, Trisha Harris and husband Andrew of Hays, and Annie Erbert and husband Myron of Hays, her mother-in-law: Connie Nease of Hays, a brother-in-law: Daniel Nease, a sister-in-law: Susan Bartlett and husband Kirby of Bison, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Robert and Lydia Sander, Anton and Genevieve Legleiter, father-in-law: James Nease, and a brother: Ryan Legleiter.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 am on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Celebration Community Church with Pastor Brant Rice officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:30 am until service time on Friday, all at Celebration Community Church.

Memorials in memory of Wendy may be payable to the Cancer Council of Ellis County, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Condolences and memories of Wendy may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
